Hi, this is Rob Blizard. Because I enjoy writing about animal issues and because I want to see animals treated humanely and with compassion, I am starting this blog.

I no longer work in the animal sheltering business, so this is my way of trying to contribute to the worldwide movement of people helping animals enjoy better lives. I may be only helping myself, however.

For some people, assisting animals is sort of a calling. I am no different and this blog is an effort to act on my desire to improve the conditions of other species whom humans routinely endanger.

Over the years, I’ve worked in different animal organizations, mostly as a fundraiser. I first became interested in working in the animal welfare field during the late 1990s after adopting two dogs from a shelter and volunteering there.

One of my great joys in this area was writing a biweekly newspaper column about animal issues. I was given the freedom to write about a diversity of topics: from pinch collars to tethering legislation, from the beloved hound in Sounder to Cat in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and from James Herriott to Queen Victoria.

I miss having such a forum to explore, share and, I hope, simultaneously entertain and educate. So, here I am again. I hope you will follow the blog and enjoy it.
